We Offer Sedation

For our little dreamers who need extra comfort, we offer safe sedation options in-house to make every visit stress-free and relaxed. Read some of our most common questions below, or give our office a call to learn more!

  • Yes, sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals. Your child is carefully monitored the entire time, including their breathing, heart rate, and oxygen levels. Our Little Dreamers team is specifically trained to provide sedation in a controlled, safe environment.

  • Sedation can be helpful if your child:

    • Feels anxious or fearful about dental visits

    • Has difficulty sitting still for longer procedures

    • Needs multiple treatments completed in one visit

    • Has special healthcare needs or sensory sensitivities

The goal is to make the experience calm, comfortable, and stress-free.

  • Depending on your child’s needs, your dentist may recommend:

    • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): A mild sedation that helps children relax while staying awake

    • Oral Sedation: Medication taken before the appointment to reduce anxiety

    • IV Sedation or General Anesthesia: Used for more complex procedures or higher anxiety levels

Dr. Sanford and his team will walk you through the best option for your child.

  • Not always. Some forms of sedation (like nitrous oxide) keep your child awake but relaxed. Others, like general anesthesia, allow your child to sleep through the procedure. The recommendation depends on the treatment and your child’s comfort level.

  • Preparation instructions may vary, but typically include:

    • Limiting food and drink before the appointment

    • Dressing your child in comfortable clothing

    • Bringing a favorite toy or comfort item

You’ll receive detailed instructions ahead of time to ensure everything goes smoothly.

  • Most children tolerate sedation very well. Some mild, temporary side effects may include: drowsiness, slight grogginess, or nausea (rare). These usually wear off quickly after the appointment.

  • In many cases, yes. Especially for mild sedation. For deeper sedation or general anesthesia, parents may be asked to step out for safety and focus. Our dental team will explain what to expect for your appointment ahead of time.

  • Dr. Sanford and his team will carefully review your child’s medical history, behavior, and treatment needs before making a recommendation. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and feel confident in the plan.

Your child’s safety and comfort are always our top priorities. Sedation dentistry allows us to provide gentle, stress-free care in a way that’s tailored to your child’s unique needs.

Highly recommend Little Dreamers Pediatric Dentistry! The office space is immaculate, and the doctor & hygenist went above and beyond to make my daughters feel comfortable. They were patient, kind, and kid-friendly. I have tried a few pediatric dentists over the years, and Little Dreamers is one of the best experiences I have had.

I have never left a review ever on Google Reviews. But this place deserves it. I have taken my daughter to several pediatric dental offices and left highly disappointed and anxious. But Dr. Sanford and his team were all AMAZING! I was smiling the entire time and felt at ease. My daughter actually enjoyed the dentist for the first time ever.

We had an appointment today and I was very impressed. The office staff was extremely accommodating, kind, and professional from start to finish. Dr. Sanford was wonderful with my daughter — patient, gentle, and had a great bedside manner. Overall, a great experience and I highly recommend this office for pediatric dental care.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this dentist. They are so nice and welcoming! The place is very clean and inviting to children. They did amazing with my son’s cleaning and exam. They explained everything to me and my son thoroughly as they were doing everything. I live an hour and 20 minutes away but I will be making the drive just for them every time. I honestly cannot recommend them enough. I am so impressed!
